1. Blue bottle coffee

California imported Blue Bottle Coffee has set the bar for a good coffee high in Hong Kong. The coffee shop recently opened at Lyndhurst Terrace, giving Hong Kong a brew of fresh beans kept out of the roaster for less than 48 hours.

Collaborating with Schemata Architects, the 3,000 sqft space features an elegantly designed minimalist look. The sleek wooden tables, marble flooring and antique furniture are pleasing and equally modern.

With a cult like following and a hard to resist aroma arising from the shop, it’s no wonder Blue Bottle gets the attention of people passing by.

2. Tai Wo Tang

A stark contrast from Blue Bottle, Tai Wo Tong is a coffee shop located in Kowloon City. The iconic shop was actually built in 1920 with a vintage Guangzhou style architect that was previously used as a traditional Chinese medicine clinic – until it was converted into a coffee shop after the passing of its medicine practitioner.

Whilst the coffee shop itself is not so old, the preservation of the shop’s architect of 1920 speaks volumes about the place – even the 10-decade old Baizi Cabinet and gold Tai Wo Tong sign outside the shop is still in place, perfectly preserving the precious memories of Kowloon City.

So, next time if you plan to visit, don’t forget to order their signature flavored latte with honey and earl grey whilst enjoying the historical culture of Tai Wo Tong!

Mr. Cardigan is truly a great place to enjoy the afternoon and enjoy their bagged coffee! The greenery and relaxed vibe will surely give you a much needed break from the hustle and bustle of the city, but if you wish to visit – be sure to plan ahead, as they only open on a Sunday!
